Got the exact same issue.

I got it working once, but I'm not sure how.
Now, the app doesn't see any of the vm's.

Any idea why this could be?

As a test have you tried specifying a single vm and using the syntax >>HVBackup -f list.txt -o c:\backup

Apparently, the tool expects the VM(s) to be turned on...

I am having the same issue. I have tried almost all scenarios and none of them work.

It is a 2012 server with a vm which is also running a 2012 OS.

Here are some of the commands I have tried:

"D:\Backup Tools\HVBackup\HVBackup.exe" -a -o F:\backups

"D:\Backup Tools\HVBackup\HVBackup.exe" -l TESTVM -o F:\backups

"D:\Backup Tools\HVBackup\HVBackup.exe" -l TESTVM -o F:\backups

"D:\Backup Tools\HVBackup\HVBackup.exe" -f F:\Backups\BackupList.txt -o F:\backups

All of them say the vm is not found. The first command doesn't find any VM's either?

What am I missing?

I ran into this too. Run the cmd prompt as Admin

There is a bug in HV Backup, that prevents it from finding offline VMs in Windows Server 2012. Details and fixed build are available here.
