Logic to order list -l is ran in?

Can any one please explain the logic used for the order in which a list supplied via -l is ran in? It appears to be running in a random order for me. It isn't backing up the VMs in the order they are specified in the list.

My list coincidently is in alphabetical order so it's not doing that either.

-l A,B1,B2,D,N,W1,W2,V
Started off backing up B1, then D, then W2

Thank you
